Louisiana Private Investigators Association
Awards & Honors

The awards program was resumed at the 2010 Super Conference after a 10 year break, during a time in which the LPIA was rebuilding as an organization.  President Robert Weltz recognized the contributions of the officers that took control in 2008 and started the rebuilding process.  Current officers were recognized for their contributions and several other awards were named. Among them, we continued the tradition:

LPIA Distinguished Achievement Award

The highest honor an investigator can receive as a member of the Louisiana Private Investigator Association is the prestigious "LPIA Distinguished Achievement Award". This award is bestowed on the individual or individuals who have contributed exceptional time, energy and effort to the betterment of the LPIA and/or the Louisiana Investigative Industry.

Service to the LPIA and the industry is the primary consideration in making the selection.  The nominees and recipients are announced at the annual LPIA Conference.

Eligibility

Any current, Active, Associate, or Affiliate Member of LPIA is eligible for this award. The nominee for "LPIA Distinguished Achievement Award" need not necessarily be a private investigator.
 

Criteria

Judging will be based on achievements and contributions made during the last calendar year, using the following criteria:

  • Special contribution and service to LPIA

  • Special contribution and service to the profession

  • Exceptional service to the public

 

DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNERS

2010 Maria E. Dugas
Dugas Legal Investigations

Presented for her exceptional dedication, support and contributions for the betterment of the LPIA and the private investigative industry. Maria currently serves as the LPIA’s representative on the LSBPIE Board. As a Board member, she has dedicated her time and efforts in ensuring that our industry standards reflect the highest standards of professionalism. By developing a new training guideline regarding CEH that also will include for the first time a requirement for ethics training, she has ensured a commitment of excellence for our industry.
 

   
2004 Tim Asmussen
Asmussen Associates
Presented for his efforts in fighting Louisiana Legislation that has threatened the private investigator's ability to provide our services, Tim fought on the national level in a key role of the Nation Council of Investigation and Security Services where he served on the  legislative committee..  Tim has a degree in Criminal Justice from Southeastern Louisiana University and is a former law enforcement offier.  He had the gargantuan battle of fighting the video voyeurism law and assisted in having language added that allowed private investigators to do their jobs.

Lynette B. Darbonne
Bombet, Cashio, & Darbonne Investigations
Serving in a supporting role for numerous presidents as Treasurer and editor when needed, Lynette Darbonne has been there when needed.  For this, she was presented with our highest award.

State Board of Private Investigator Examiners
The time, work, and untiring efforts put forth by Mr. Brown in the pursuit of the profession of Private Investigators, and the unselfish vigilance regarding the Legislative actions taken during the past and present sessions of the State Legislature has been unmatched.

Investigator of the Year Award

Outstanding investigative work and contribution to the profession qualifies an investigator to receive the prestigious "Louisiana Investigator of the Year" award This award is bestowed on the individual or individuals who have displayed outstanding professional service on one or more cases and time and energy promoting the Investigative Industry.

Outstanding work on solving an investigative case(s) are the primary consideration in making the selection.

Eligibility

Any current Active, Associate or Affiliate Member of LPIA is eligible for this award. The nominee for "Investigator of the Year" must be a licensed private investigator or, if from out of state, the equivalent in their own jurisdiction. If the nominee is an Affiliate member, that person must be working as an employee of a licensee or an agency that is exempt from licensure.
 

Criteria

Judging will be based on a special case/s and contributions to the industry, using the following criteria:

  • Special contribution of service to the profession

  • Outstanding professional achievement

  • Exceptional service to the public

INVESTIGATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNERS

2010 George Day
Day's Investigations

Presented on recommendation of three law firms for outstanding investigative work. In one reported case, George was instrumental in obtaining information that was used to obtain a large settlement that would have been awarded to the other party had it not been for his investigative skills and efforts. George was also instrumental in the rebirth of the LPIA by obtaining interest and in the recruitment of a group of officers that were willing to tackle the duties needed to help the LPIA.

L.P.I.A.  ACCOLADE AWARD

First presented at the Shreveport Convention in 2000; this award seeks to acknowledge the efforts of a professional outside the ranks of the LPIA for efforts on our behalf.  The first such award goes to SENATOR JAY DARDENNE for his efforts in the passing of several legislative issues on behalf of private investigators.

Steve Divine
Creative Cyber Innovations

Presented for his tireless dedication, commitment and support of the LPIA. Steve’s attention to detail and outstanding work ethic has supported the LPIA and our future success. He has played a key role in promoting the image of the LPIA with similar state organizations and other industry professionals. His contagious unbridled ambition and willingness to go above and beyond is a testament of his dedication in helping to make the LPIA the organization that it is today.              (Text Provided to webmaster by LPIA board)
 

 

 

2000 Senator Jay Dardenne
Presented for his efforts in the passing of several legislative issues on behalf of private investigators.

 

HISTORIAN EMERITUS GARY HYATT
Presented to the family of Gary Hyatt, posthumously for his tireless efforts in founding the LPIA as well as his contributions to the industry.  Gary Hyatt passed away in June 2008 and during the board members voted to honor his contributions by naming him Historian Emeritus for all time.  At the 2010 Super Conference, held in Kenner, Louisiana October 22, 2010 his daughter, Melanie was there to receive the award on behalf of their family.
