2009 Regular Legislative Session
During the 2009 Regular Legislative Session, the main focus of legislative efforts were spent on SB 29 proposed by Senator Riser. The bill was known as the " Anti-Caller ID Spoofing Act" which would prohibit a caller from hiding his true identity by modifying caller ID information with the intent to mislead, defraud, or deceive the recipient of the telephone call. Through the efforts of the LPIA members and our legislative lobbyist, George Stiemel, an amendment to SB 29 was proposed by Senator Nick Geautreaux which excluded licensed private investigators from SB 29. Finally, SB 29 with an exclusion for licensed private investigators was signed by the Governor becoming Act SB 29. Finally, SB 29 with an exclusion for licensed private investigators was signed by the Governor becoming Act 105 and taking effect August 15, 2009.
